With a lack of information out there regarding men’s skincare routines, it can be hard to know where to turn. A lot of the skincare industry is focused on women’s skin, and while those products still work amazing, men are still needing something slightly different out of their own routines. Not to mention, the vain stereotype that is attached to skincare doesn’t exactly make you want to run try one for yourself. That, unfortunately, leaves men with not a lot of information about their own skin and how it works, let alone the products that will work best to help them achieve the skin they want. But don’t be mistaken, a man with an energized face is a man that is getting noticed. So, now what? How can you find the right men’s skincare routine for yourself?
As you start to learn more about your skin type you can start to narrow down the right products for yourself to master your skincare routine. Really, it will come down to trial and error as well as personal preference. But for starters, we are going to load you up with all the necessary information you need to get you headed in the right direction on your skincare journey. While each product will come down to a specific skin type, we will review products that are completely organic, full of natural ingredients, allergy and sensitive skin safe, as well as good for all skin types. But first, let’s start internally.
Starting From the Inside
The first thing to address with any good skincare routine is any internal issues. Problematic skin whether it is acne, bumps, dryness, oiliness, or whatever common skin issue you may be facing, typically is arising from an internal issue. Our bodies have an amazing way of letting us know something is not functioning properly, and one way to pin down exactly where the issue lies is by taking a look at our skin. The good news is, this can usually be a quick fix by adding the right foods to your diet. Remember that foods that are greasy or processed (I like to call these ‘beige foods’) are the main culprits for acne, dryness, and oiliness. While sugar, alcohol, and tobacco are the number one cause of skin aging and wrinkles. While these things aren’t bad in moderation, they still have the ability to drastically change the state of our skin.
It is also worth considering that you may be allergic to something you are eating. Many times, we can be allergic to foods without even realizing it, causing massive and annoying skin breakouts. Getting a check up from a doctor or a food sensitivity test could help you uncover the issue.
In the meantime, slowly start by adding greens, veggies, and some fruits into your diet. Try kicking out sodas and swapping them with other carbonated or naturally sweetened drinks. Even small changes in the right direction can have large impacts on your long term health and your skin. In addition to this, make sure to stay on top of your water intake to help your body flush out toxins and clear your skin up faster.
The Nitty Gritty
Now on to the external portion of skincare. To make it easy for you to follow, we’ve made it extremely simple with only a few products to get you moving in the right direction. This skin care routine is not only meant to provide you with the skin you want but also to prevent any issues down the road. Regardless of your skin type, the three steps you should always remember are 1) face wash and toner, and 2) moisturize.

Washing your face is the most important step. It cleans your skin of any dirt, oil, and bacteria leftover from the day and can take the next steps in your skincare routine much more effectively. To wash your face, simply wet your face with warm water to open up your pores (this will help the wash to really dig down into your skin). Take a dime size amount of the face wash product and gently rub it in circular motions around your face for 60 seconds. Make sure you are covering every area of your skin included chin, neck, nose, and edges of your forehead. Then, wash the product off with cold water (this will help close up your pores). The reason we included the face wash and toner step in one is that many men’s face washes actually have a toner included already, including the Rugged & Dapper face wash. The Rugged & Dapper face wash is such a popular option amongst men for a few great reasons. It is formulated specifically for men and is designed to dig deep and attack dirt, oil, and leftover grime from the day without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. It also has multipurpose benefits including face wash, toner, and exfoliator to cover all your bases in one quick, highly effective wash. Not to mention, it is also completely natural and organic, so if you suffer from sensitive or allergy prone skin this is a great option for you.
The next step is to find a good moisturizer. Once you wash your face and remove any excess oils, we want to apply good ingredients to our skin to help it stay hydrated and healthy. When looking for a good moisturizer, try and stay away from anything that is also “acne fighting”. While this sounds enticing, these products usually have a slew of chemicals that will dry out your skin and over time, make your acne worse. Instead, find a moisturizer that includes jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is a natural oil but is one of the best oils for men’s skin. It absorbs quickly and provides powerful effects almost immediately. If you are unsure of what to get, we suggest trying our favorite brand, Brickell.
The Brickell Men’s Daily Moisturizer is a great option because it includes natural ingredients like green tea, vitamin E, and of course, jojoba oil. This not only makes it a highly effective product, but because its ingredients are all-natural, it is also a safe option for sensitive or allergy prone skin or any skin type. It is also designed for men and comes in a great sandalwood scent. This fast acting moisturizer is one of the best products on the market in men’s skincare today.
