For too long, there has been a negative stigma around makeup. It was considered to be only a feminine beauty activity and was socially unacceptable for men. However, with the changing times, comes a change in the beauty world too. These invisible boundaries around makeup are starting to disappear completely and the stigmas are dissolving with them. Many are starting to realize that you don’t have to wear dark eyeliner, purple eyeshadow, or pink blush to wear makeup. Makeup is simply a tool to accentuate your natural features, cover up impurities, and make you feel more confident about yourself. Now, regardless of the gender you identify with, people are starting to venture into the world of makeup and find their own place in it. So why not men?
There are many reasons to consider wearing makeup, whether it’s to cover dark spots, acne, redness, puffy under eyes, or simply to give your face a little extra boost. The thing about makeup though is that you don’t have to have a full face of makeup to enjoy the benefits. In fact, it doesn’t even need to look like you’re wearing make up at all. The purpose of makeup is to brighten natural features on your face, while carefully covering up blemishes and impurities. The goal is to make this look completely natural, like you’re not wearing any make up at all. Ready to cover up that breakout before your next date? We got you covered. Literally.
Where Would I Start?
The nice thing about men’s makeup is that it is extremely simple since you won’t need many products. In fact, there are really only 2 makeup products you will ever need. However, before we apply any makeup, we need to prepare out skin. Preparing your skin is going to be your key to wearing makeup as it will help the makeup to set in and make it look completely natural. Bottom line is, if you prepare your skin first no one will ever know you’re wearing makeup. So, the first step is to wash your face and get rid of any dirt’s or oil’s that may be sitting on your skin. You will want to find a natural face wash that has a toner including in it – most men’s face washes do have this two-in-one feature. A toner will get rid of any access oils and redness, so if you are one that suffers from particularly oily skin this will be your key to managing that. If you are unsure of what to get, we recommend trying the Jack Black Pure Clean Face Wash.

You Only Need 2 Things
The truth is, you don’t need to buy Covergirl to get the makeup that you want. In fact, there are many makeup brands out there targeted specifically for men. When looking for makeup there are only two things that you will need, 1) concealer, and 2) a tinted moisturizer. But what are these exactly?
Concealer
Concealers are a thick application that is used to cover stubborn spots like redness, under eye, or breakouts. They are extremely powerful, long-last wear (meaning you can wear them for up to 12 hours before they start to wear off), and very effective. This is the first thing you will apply to cover any redness. When applying concealer, always remember less is more. Apply a small amount to the tip of your finger. Gently dot the concealer over any blemishes or redness you wish to cover. Continue to pat the concealer with the tip of your finger until it is blended out. Remember, patting the concealer will continue to blend it, so you will want to pat is until it blends into your skin. You can always apply concealer around your eyes and eyelids, and the outer corners of your nose where redness likes to hide. This can help make your eyes look sharper. Try KODE’s Concealer specifically designed for men’s skin.

Already using a moisturizer? Try a tinted one! Tinted moisturizers are a great option for men looking to get into makeup. They are made exactly like your moisturizer but with a slight skin tone tint to them. They are extremely lightweight and full coverage, giving you an even skin tone without looking like you have anything on. Once you have applied your concealer, let it dry for 3min to set in. Next, take your tinted moisturizer and apply it the same way you would apply normal moisturizer. Spread it over your face (and over the spots you covered with concealer) to give yourself an even skin tone. Make sure to cover every corner of your skin included jawline, neck, and the edges of your forehead. Matching the tinted moisturizer to your skin tone is extremely important. How do I take it off?
Taking off your makeup is just as important! When you leave makeup on or forget to wash it off at the end of the day, it can cause build up, breakouts, and all sorts of fun skin issues. However, taking it off is extremely simple, and doesn’t require any extra steps to your skin care routine. To take off the concealer and tinted moisturizer, simply use an oil based face wash, or even just a straight natural oil safe for your skin, like coconut oil, olive oil, or jojoba oil. Any oil based wash is going to wash off the makeup immediately, as well as remove dirt’s and oil’s that have built up naturally throughout your day. Not sure what to try? We recommend using the same face wash you used to prep your skin, the Jack Black Pure Clean Face Wash. Not only does it smell great, but it is a jojoba oil based face wash (the best natural oil for men’s skin).
