Who is Gordon Ramsay?
Chef Gordon Ramsay was born in Scotland on November 8, 1966. He grew up in Stratford-on-Avon since the age of 9. He was a keen soccer player until a serious injury forced him out of the game. So he concentrated on a career in the culinary field when he was 19.
After Gordon Ramsay got injured in a soccer game, he studied hotel management at North Oxfordshire Technical Institute. After graduating, he worked for some time with chef Marco Pierre White.
Barely over two years there, he decided to study French cuisine. His culinary adventures took him from Mayfair to the French Alps, and then Paris, Bermuda, and Sicily & Sardinia in Italy. All the while he continued learning and improving.
In 1983, he returned to London as head chef in a restaurant. However, the turning point was 1998 when Ramsay decided to start his own restaurant with the help of his father-in-law, the Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. His restaurant got its third Michelin Star in 2001.
After that Ramsay expanded his restaurant base rapidly. He has restaurants in Glasgow, Dubai, Tokyo, and New York. He is the first Scotsman to have got three Michelin Stars. His net worth is now estimated at $220 million.
Who is Bobby Flay?
Chef Bobby Flay was born on December 10, 1964, to Irish-American parents. He is a fourth-generation Irish American and was raised as a Catholic. At the age of 8, he asked his father for an Easy-Bake Oven for Christmas.
At 17, Bobby Flay dropped out of high school and worked at a Baskin-Robbins and a pizza parlor. He later worked as a salad maker at Joe Allen Restaurant where his father was a partner. Joe Allen was so impressed with his skills that he sponsored Bobby’s tuition fees at the French Culinary Institute. After graduating, Flay worked as a sous chef with Jonathan Waxman who taught him Cajun and southwestern cuisine which became his signature cuisine.
The turning point came in 1991. Bobby was offered the position of executive chef at Jerome Ketchmer’s Mesa Grill. Booby soon became a partner in the restaurant. In 2004 he started the Mesa Grill in Las Vegas. He now has restaurants in Manhattan, New Jersey, and the Bahamas. Besides this, he has a chain of Bobby’s Burger Palace in various locations all over the US. He earned one Michelin Star for his Las Vegas Mesa Grill, but that was taken away the next year. Bobby’s net worth is estimated at $30 million.
